Sam Welsford (Bora-Hansgrohe) received the opening stage of the Tour de Hongrie, outpacing Samuel Quaranta (MBH Bank Colpack Ballan) and Jakub Mareczko (Corratec-Vini Fantini) in a crash-hit dash end in Hajdúszoboszló.
The Australian bounced again from the frustration of lacking choice for the Giro d’Italia to take his fourth win of the yr after a trio of victories on house floor on the Tour Down Under.
Behind him, Quaranta, the 21-year-old son of Nineteen Nineties professional racer Ivan, couldn’t fairly draw up alongside and needed to accept a transparent second place, whereas fellow Italian Mareczko rounded out the rostrum forward of Nicklas Pedersen (TDT-Unibet).
Mark Cavendish took sixth place on the line after going a contact early following his Astana Qazaqstan workforce’s lead out, his greatest dash end result since successful stage 4 of the Tour Colombia again in February.
