Tom Pidcock (Ineos Grenadiers) took a pitch-perfect victory on the UCI World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě, driving solo from an assault on the fourth lap forward of Nino Shurter (Scott–Sram) in and Marcel Guerrini (BIXS Performance Race Team) in third.
Pidcock, reigning World and Olympic champion, has now raced in Nove Mesto 4 years in a row and received on every event, giving him an unbeaten report.
The early components of the race appeared slightly perilous for the Brit, although, as Shurter and Victor Koretzky (Specialized Factory Racing) – general factors chief within the World Cup collection and winner of the quick monitor race at Nove Mesto on Saturday – broke away on the second lap and established a palpable hole.
By the third lap the most important contenders had been again collectively and Pidcock wasted no time in making an explosive assault on the circuit’s major climb – affectionately named the Whoopenberg. However, the transfer was pulled again as Pidcock was unable to interrupt the elastic.
The assault had positioned Pidcock on the entrance of the pack, although, and meant that on the fourth lap, he was capable of launch a renewed assault towards Shurter on the climb and journey away from the Swiss rider.
By the top of the fourth lap, Pidcock had pulled out a 15-second lead, and over the subsequent three laps Pidcock’s lead hovered round 25 seconds – conserving Shurter inside competition, and Pidcock just one technical misstep away from dropping his lead.
A tiny wobble on the ultimate climb was the one mistake Pidcock ceded as he expanded his result in over 30 seconds in a decisive last lap earlier than he rode to clear victory.
