Ethan Hayter (Ineos) received the elite males’s street race on the British Championships after seeing off the challenges of Lewis Askey (Groupama-FDJ) and Max Walker (Astana-Qazaqstan) on the stiff climb of Saltburn Bank.
After an aggressive opening to the race had diminished the entrance group to simply fifteen or so riders, the successful transfer started to take form with just a little over 50km remaining, when Hayter, Askey and Walker went clear within the firm of Jake Stewart (Israel-Premier Tech) and Bob Donaldson (Trinity Racing), with Connor Swift (Ineos) and Joseph Blackmore becoming a member of them firstly of the penultimate lap.
Soon afterwards, Hayter, Askey and Walker cast forward, and the trio would mix properly to open a lead of greater than a minute by the point they took the bell with 26km to go.
On the ultimate lap, Swift made a recreation effort to bridge throughout alone to the break, but it surely already appeared clear that the main trio would determine the title on the brief however sharp climb from the seafront to the end line.
Once onto the climb, Hayter was pleased to regulate affairs from the entrance, however Askey launched a rasping acceleration when the gradient started to chew.
