Sepp Kuss (Visma-Lease a Bike) conquered the powerful slopes of Lagunas de Neila to win stage 3 on the Vuelta a Burgos and transfer into the race lead with two days remaining.
After crashing on the primary two phases, Kuss bounced again with a bang, attacking first with 1.7km to go and kicking once more inside the ultimate 900m to distance Jefferson Cepeda (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and take his first victory since profitable the Vuelta a España final season.
Cepeda ended third after a late cost from Lorenzo Fortunato (Astana Qazaqstan) noticed him cross the road seven seconds behind the American, with Max Poole (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) taking fourth 20 seconds down.
Kuss takes the general lead heading into the ultimate two phases, with pre-stage chief and sprinter Caleb Ewan (Jayco AlUla) dropping early within the climbing-packed 138km stage. Kuss holds a spot of 13 seconds and 24 seconds to Cepeda and Poole who’re at present sitting within the podium locations.
